Hand Sewn Artist's Brush Roll

I just finished sewing this pretty brush holder.  I made this gift for my college girlfriend, who has a degree in art.  I like it so much, I wish I could keep it. ^_^

Remember when I received this sweet gift of fabric from Darryle Pollack?  You can see more at my post about Darryle's gift.  I used some of the patchwork fabric from Darryle to sew this brush roll.

I LOVE my rotary cutter & mat.. my husband gave me a wonderul Christmas gift!  If you sewwith a lot of patchwork and you don't have these supplies, you need to get them now!  They will make your life so much easier.

I used my 24" heavy duty ruler as a straight edge to cut my fabric.

I sewed all of the layers together and left an opening for turning.

I trimmed away all the excess fabric.

Turned right sides out.  I have pressed the opening closed and pinned with quilting pins.

I used a sharpie and my straight edge to mark where I needed to sew.

I sewed through 3 layers of fabric + quilt batting.

The finished product!

How cute is that?  She can safely travel with all of her brushes and never worry about messing them up again.

I based my design off of the step-by-step tutorial found in this awesome patchwork book.

You can purchase Joelle Hoverson's Last Minute Patchwork & Quilted Gifts at Purl.com.  What a great investment!  I have already made several of the projects featured in her book.
